Violist REBECCA STRAUSS is known as a fine performer, professional businesswoman, and beloved educator in the Boston arts scene. An alumna of Oberlin Conservatory of Music, she has played with ensembles such as the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, the Boston Ballet Orchestra, Opera Boston, Boston Lyric Opera, and the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, and performed with popular artists ranging from Marc O'Connor, Yo Yo Ma, and Andrea Bocelli to Led Zeplin, Anne Murray, and k.d. lang.

As a longtime member of the New England String Ensemble, she has performed live on WGBH radio, served as Director of Education, and introduced composers and their music to New England high schools through the New England Musical Heritage Initiative. Creator and music director of Riverview Chamber Players, founded in 1993, Rebecca has garnered praise as a versatile performer who plays, books, and organizes chamber music concerts and private and corporate events. Her chamber groups have played in virtually all the significant four-star hotels and houses of worship throughout Greater Boston, as well as in Kings Chapel, the Boston Athenaeum, the Old South Meeting House — and on Reality TV! In addition, she regularly performs in the Chamber Music Foundation of New England concert series, has been featured on Chronicle (WCVB-TV), "The Total Woman" TV show (WCAT-TV), and profiled in the Boston Globe.

Rebecca has a long-term commitment to social change and environmental issues. When not harvesting vegetables at Lindentree Farm in Lincoln and working with a local Eco-team, she is often found initiating projects like collaborating with the Greater Boston Food Bank (bringing chamber music to the Kids Café) and chronicling the international eco-work of Global Classroom.

Rebecca's communication skills with corporate and non-profit clients, wedding professionals, and fellow musicians have been honed in graduate studies at Lesley College and through years of teaching violin and viola, both in her home studio and through institutions such as the Indian Hill Music School.

"Having never taken violin lessons and being a middle aged man, I was unsure that someone would have any interest in taking me on as a student. Rebecca has allowed me to discover the true essence of the violin and has adapted her teaching style to meet my unique sensibilities. She understands exactly what aspects to stress and has beautifully woven the mechanics of the instrument with music theory."
